No. No, he does not.

How can the writer of The Life Aquatic and Fantastic Mr. Fox and the writer/director of The Squid and the Whale, Margot at the Wedding, Greenberg, and Frances Ha, not deserve to be recognized as a terrific independent filmmaker?

Wow! They've got the Internet on computers now? - Homer Simpson

the squid and the whale is super uber predictable,is not even a movie is just "some things happen to people" .there are millions of movies like that and are bashed for that.Margot at the wedding was just ok but some dialogues were aforism

While he is talented, he is basically Woody Allen-lite.

reply

I think he is more Whit Stillman lite.

Yes.

While I never heard of him until recently, I imagine his fame is limited because he is a niche/art indie filmmaker. Most people would never recognize him on the street, like they would Spielberg, Nolan, Jackson, Burton, etc.

If people like and seek out his films, then his fame is most definitely earned amongst them.

I don't know what "his fame" is but very little of what he does isn't great.
