Children of famous people

Why are there so many children of famous people in this? Is that meant to be a part of the message of the film?

It's not a factor in the story but at the same time it certainly undercuts its message. What do children of famous people know about poverty ? Nothing. The irony is that they were all schooled in method acting, and yet so little of their experiences can serve as material for their performances. So they just faked it.

The chick who plays Rachel is the daughter of Meryl Streep and the chick who plays Sophie is the daughter of Sting and that hack of a wife of his Trudie Styler.

To be fair, that was Charlotte's character. So if the actress convinced you that's what the she's is like in real life, she did a good job.

Interesting. And, barf. I thought she was *awful* -- not just that the character Sophie was unlikable (tho she was) but that she was one-dimensional, as in the "actress" had very little skill. The puniness of that character in her hands made one of the crucial premises of the movie (the intense and nourishing and changing friendship between F and S) not-believable. I would be *astonished* if the Sting-child's presence weren't the price exacted for Mom n Pop funding the movie.

(On a diff. note: Sting's 1st wife, Frances Tomelty, is a very talented actress, and I think that he has some talent as a musician -- so what the hell is he doing with Styler, who seems to be a big nothing?)

Who *beep* cares who are their parents.
I don't go to Wikipedia to read about someone I've only seen once.
I, and you should too, judge on their performances. And I thought everyone in this movie were great.
It actually helped that they weren't famous actors.

I watched this movie because it had Greta Gerwig. Other than that I didn't and still don't know any others in the cast. My sense, is that this movie was low budget relying on friends and acquaintenances to get it made. Gerwig's parents in the movie are her real parents in her hometown of Sacramento for instance.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else
