It’s a fair criticism, but it ignores how well the film presents Frances’ struggle as genuine.

And not every story as to end in tragedy, in fact most people prefer a narrative of personal redemption. Frances accepted her diminished horizons and was able to move on. That’s kind of what personal growth is like.
