We had the president's assassin in our office?
Is that made up for the movie or did that actually happen?

It really happened. I read "No Left Turns" by a FBI agent and a few other books by ex-agents about those days. Political cases were hard to close because no one wanted to take responsibility even when it was a waste of time. Oswald was having marital problems and separated from his wife. Then Marina calls him and tells him an FBI agent (Hosty) had looked her up again.
Oswald blew his stack at what he regarded as harrassment, went down to the Dallas FBI office agent to confront them. Hosty wasn't there so he left a note. Then he went and got his rifle out of the garage where it was stored and history was made.
By the time they opened and read the note the president was dead. They destroyed the note but word eventually leaked out. Hoover was so angry he ordered the agent out of Dallas on the next plane. He was told his family could sell the family home and join him. If I remember right he was sent to Montana.
I wonder what was in the note.

I think the agent was sent to Kansas City, which was considered one of the least desirable FBI field offices. I believe he was there for the rest of his life.

Another FBI dumping ground was "Bloody Harlan." Harlan County Kentucky was the scene of murders and dynamitings for years between coal companies and miners. Also to be sent to Mississippi on civil rights killings in cars without air conditioining.
I don't know everything. Neither do you.
