'Jackie! Jackie!' - Really?

I find it hard to believe that all those people would have been calling the First Lady "Jackie" to her face. Except for the closest family friends, it should have been "Mrs Kennedy." I found that a jarringly anachronistic and inappropriate note. In fact, maybe not even anachronistic; would people call Mrs Obama "Michelle" even today unless they knew her as a friend? I hope not!

I agree and thought the same thing while watching it.

If you're referring to the scene in the trauma room where the feller wearing the bloody shirt and tie says "Jackie, it's time to say goodbye" - and a similar scene in the parking lot just before the stretcher is wheeled into the hospital where we hear Mrs. Kennedy addressed as "Jackie" once or twice, that was either Kenny O'Donnell or Dave Powers - probably O'Donnell. Those are the only two in the entire cast who might have addressed Mrs. Kennedy as “Jackie” and gotten away with it. Both had been acquainted with her since the 1950s, possibly as far back as 1953.

reply

Yeah I don't remember anyone else speaking to the First Lady so familiarly. Some of the SS agents refer to her as "Jackie", but not to her face, and even that likely wouldn't have happened in that situation. But from those two men...I didn't question it.

reply

I assumed one of the men by the car - he'd been in the one following it - was Dave Powers, who was a close friend.

reply

I was surprised that the Secret Service did not use JFK and Jackie's Secret Service code names which were Lancer and Lace. Although they did refer to LBJ as "Volunteer" his SS code name

Boston and Philly love to slander us, but they don't have as many fans as us

Would they not say Mrs First Lady?

You don't know sh!t, Jon Snow!

reply

No, they would not. No one has ever used it that way.

Who knows what relationship she had with the people around her. Maybe at some point she said 'oh, don't call me Mrs. Kennedy, call me Jackie'. Or better yet, she was in such a state of shock after the shooting, maybe they called her by her first name to try and get her to 'snap' out of it. While I agree with the OP idea that it was strange, considering the chaotic situation, it does seem possible.

reply

I agree. I found it strange, unusual.
