Beware of movies "written & directed by" the same person...
Beware of movies "written and directed by" the same person. While it may not always apply, I certainly took notice of them after that God-awful movie "Magnolia!"

shareThat's a bit unfair. A movie being written/directed by the same person does not mean it'll be good or bad.
It's a practice that goes back to the creation of cinema.
There may be boring or bad examples of movies that where written and directed by the same person.
But there are tons of films that excel, which were written and directed by the same person:
Star Wars, American Graffiti, Annie Hall, Manhattan, Citizen Kane, Touch of Evil, The Kid, The Great Dictator, Easy Rider, The Sixth Sense, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Terminator, Titanic, Apocalypse Now, The Godfather I & II...
...Finding Nemo, The Incredibles...
...The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy...
...Boyhood, Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Nightcrawler, Whiplash...
etc.
etc.
etc.
Also, I wouldn't go saying Magnolia is a God-awful movie around this posts.
It doesn't make you look good.
Again- I specifically said IT DOESN'T ALWAYS APPLY. There are lots of exceptions. And saying a movie is bad is an opinion that can be expressed. That is what the post boards are for. Saying that being critical of a movie doesn't make a person "look good" is ridiculous and absurd.

Yeah because looking good to the imdb community is what people strive for, lol. MAGNOLIA SUCKS!!!!!
shareBad example. Magnolia was very good.
shareHa. I go out of my way to watch any film written and directed by the same person. Such movies always have focused vision.
shareall Woody Allen movies. Tarantino too.
shareMovies written and directed by are more likely to be good than bad as what you see on screen is probably going to be closer to the creators vision. Otherwise you get too many situations where the director wants it rewritten to match his vision or the writer wants it to be directed differently to match what he put on the page. Then you end up with verifiable garbage.
sharethere are soo many good films "written and directed" by the same person... you're comment was a "spur of the moment" insult to intelligence.
