Set to start filming in early October

In an interview at the Toronto Film Festival (where Mia Wasikowska has three new films being premiered) when asked what film she was doing next, she said that she would be doing "Madame Bovary", which was to start filming in three weeks.

yay glad to get an update on this. I was starting to wonder if it was even still happening. I wonder if Ezra Miller is still set to be in it?

As far as I know they still have Ezra Miller and Paul Giamatti. Here is a recent announcement that they've cast Henry Lloyd Hughes in the part of Charles Bovary.

I'm waiting to read who is cast in the part of Rodolphe. This is the part of Emma's older, playboy lover who takes her on quite a ride - it's a very key character.

Ok good, thanks for the link.

Filming finally got underway on 9/30 in Normandy. Awesome.

Yes, Swingbatta, I just posted an article on the Mia Wasikowska IMDB about the filming having started. I'm really excited about this, since I've read Madame Bovary four or five times and I've seen just about all the films. In truth, there's a lot of room for a new film to tap important elements in the book that other versions haven't. It's a real challenge but with this cast I'm hoping for the best.

They were filming around the area where I live in Normandy last week . We followed a yellow carriage on a trailer round the ring road last week . They were in La Perriere, Mortagne au Perche & Belleme doing work with extras . Its strange they chose this area as the geography is quite different to Haute Normandie where the book is set .

When you say you followed a yellow carriage on a trailer, it brings to mind the scene in the book where Emma and Leon (Mia and Ezra Miller) have their first tryst. If that's the carriage in question it will have a significant appearance in the finished film. Actually, I'm curious how they handle that scene. The carriage is described as having "drawn blinds of yellow canvas", and as "sealed tighter than a tomb and tossed about like a ship at sea" - So, maybe that's the one.
