POWERFUL

Very powerful and moving story...There are TOO many Oscars in this world...Too many young lives lost over misunderstandings, lack of communication, compassion, feeling, or true emotion for one another... I wish I could have had the pleasure of being a part of this project... SUPERB FILM...

I agree. The direction is very wise and knowing and surprising and patient. A moving, tense, and beautiful story of a life cut short.

In agreement, I just saw it last week in my Intro to Film History college class. Our instructor selected it as an example of a modern independent film as we were studying independent movies that week. He chose to show us Fruitvale Station, instead of his first choice, Reservoir Dogs. I had a range of mostly negative emotions in my head throughout the film. I saw Kevin Durand as one of the cops and knew something extremely horrible was going to happen as he always plays the bad guys. As the credits rolled, I was overcome with sadness and anger. I was in high school back when the BART shooting of Oscar Grant occurred and I never once remember seeing it in the headlines. After seeing this film, I was all the more upset that such an important event highlighting police brutality got little to no coverage where I live. It certainly was worth watching, but only once for me as I found too emotional to watch again.
RIP Oscar Grant
