Did he really get into a fight on the train with a guy he met in prison?

I can't find any corroboration on that. And what did he go to prison for and how much time was he sentenced to?

Sad movie...the cop did a horrible thing...but the OP is right. If he would have sat down, shut up, and respected the authorities, then he would still be alive and his daughter would have her father, regardless of what kind of a person he was. The movie makes him out to be a martyre, but the hard truth is that he chose to live the life of a criminal and fight the law to the end and that's what it got him. Dead in and subway.

If the cop hadn't shot him he wouldn't be dead. He shouldn't have resisted, but him getting shot was in no way his fault.

So ignorant man. So if he would've started dancing when the cop told him to stop that gives cops the right to murder you?

In no way we're these cops lives ever in danger, the cop even said he mistook his gun for his taser.

Watch videos on how European police handle the same situations.

This is bad policing.

I don't think thw film made him out to be a 'martyr'. It clearly showed through his interactions with his old boss and his mother in jail that he was a flawed person prone to anger and overreaction. He was also extremley loving towards his daughter and his family. His temper got him in trouble, but that's because he was human. And that's ultimatley what the film is about. Oscar wasn't a saint, he was a human being that, whatever his flaws, didn't deserve to die the way he did.

Exactly the interactions early in the movie were meant to show he had a problem with authority and would overreact when he got angry. The movie also showed him as a caring individual in the scene with the dog and the girl in the grocery store.

I think that realistically written character compounded by MBJs tremendous acting is what really makes this story hit home. He wasn't somebody who was a choirboy but he was a very relatable character that died tragically.

The only thing I questioned was him dumping an ounce of weed into water. It isn't like he was selling heroin and destroying people's lives. He probably could have used that 300 dollars to take a cab. I understand why they added that scene to show he was trying to change his ways but that was the only part of the movie I found to be unrealistic.
