It's a shame people in this board just DON'T GET IT
C'mon...seriously? This movie was beautiful and showed that nobody is perfect. It immediately shows Oscar as a drug dealer (if you want to consider weed a drug). That he was unable to keep a job because of his criminal record. That he messed around with other women even though he is with his girlfriend and has a daughter...YET...I STILL happened to see posts like "OH RIGHT like he was a perfect angel they depicted him to be"...REALLY? did you EVEN see the movie before posting that? What a low-life to even see this and STILL accuse the movie of hating whites and hating cops.
First of all...the white people in the movie were kind and considered Oscar a gentleman. The two cops involved at the end DID NOT want it to happen. It was tragic, it wasn't about it being a WHITE COP..but the fact that "why was a gun necessary in that moment? WHY was a taser even necessary?"...telling Oscar to roll over while a knee is imbedded in his neck (kind of impossible to roll over at that point).
Did ANYONE even see the beauty in this film? ANYONE? I mean the fact that it shows a man living his final hours before his untimely death, and how RESPECTFUL the film was to Oscar and his family. Did anyone even feel the realism and love from this? I mean Oscar eating Gumbo with his family at his Mom's Birthday party? Oscar picking up his daughter from Day Care and sharing those quiet moments with his daughter? That yes, his crew was loud and smoked blunts and drank, but they were all respectful, and kept to themselves.
Even the scene with the dog, though it might have been too heavy in foreshadowing, it had meaning. Pitbulls are looked at as aggressive creatures...when really it's the owners that make them that way. Oscar approaches the pitbull because he can tell it's friendly, and they show a connection. Oscar then tries to stay with the dog as it passes...because Oscar himself does not like being alone, so he wouldn't want the dog to be alone either.
The movie was just so beautiful, touching, and important that I can't believe the ammount of hate this movie gets. It's actually kind of messed up, especially the posts I read labeling Oscar as a "thug"...good for you to label someone you never even met a certain way. OHHHHH let me guess, it's because he's BLACK and had been in prison. GREAT OBSERVATION...what a bunch of scumbags this site has.
I shouldn't even have to say I'm white...but as a white man, I find it embarrassing that so many other whites have this odd obsession at labeling blacks a certain way. With all these cop shootings, it's as if they TRY to be like "NO WAIT...blacks can be bad too" NO *beep* AND whites have their fair share of lowlifes. Doesn't mean ALL blacks or whites are the same, unless you have absolutely NO brain and you think an ENTIRE RACE is the same.
It's a shame that it's 2016 and there are people older than me that are this stupid and iggnorant. You should be happy that this movie managed to RESPECT Oscar, while at the same time even respecting the COP(s) who killed him. It never labeled ANYONE as evil so why should you?
