I don't know if anyone has addressed this topic before, but what was that black thing that was growing on Noriko's neck in the hospital? Was it some consequence of the radiation emitted by Godzilla?

She got a fragment of Godzilla embedded in her which gave her regenerative properties to allow her to survive the atomic breath.
