Another thing that is confusing rop

Is the stick on "Garfield" doll on the truck. Garfield was popular in the 80's so it almost made me think maybe the time period was supposed to be in the 80's except that the dad calls mom from a cellphone so it can't be the 80's
Egoyan has said that the film was inspired by the michael dunaphee abduction in BC in 1991 (this was before Amber Alerts And according to Wikipedia this case was part of the reason Amber alerts were put into place in Canada )

The make of the truck plus the web marks it in the 2000s

What are they doing? Why do they come here?
Some kind of instinct, memory, what they used to do.

none of the vehicles would fit in with an 80's time set either.
also, the technology in play wouldn't fit with the 80's, the 90's, or even the early 2000's...

That seems odd that they would say the film was inspired by the Michael Dunahee abduction when there are so many other missing child cases that closer correlate to the elements in this movie (age and sex of the missing child).

I don't know that much about missing children cases in Canada but it just seems strange they would pick a case about a four year old boy who has never been found for inspiration. Maybe it has something to do with their thinking they had found him in 2006 (which turned out it was NOT him) that inspired the story-line of this movie?
