the story just wasn't there for me. Setting - check photography - check, check! characters - half-check story - no check
I loved "Let the Right One In" and thought that this might be another unconventional take on the vampire genre. It was, but the story needed to do more for me than it did. Bummer.
I think it's more of a character piece than a narrative driven movie.
You have women placed in a box of what they should be in the middle eastern world; but, here, we have a woman as a powerful creature to be feared. It's quite a statement.
IMO, being able to watch who she is / what she does unfold in the screen as well as her eventual falling in love and display of her human side is the grandeur of this movie. It replaces the need of a complex storyline because the message is told without needing it.
I'm absolutely with you on this one. Best intentions but no execution. It all starts with a good script that tells a compelling story and gives it's characters life and the opportunity to develop. That wasn't the case with this movie.
