Iranians make good films, unlike Arab friends of the USA

Although Iran is constantly being labeled by the USA as the worst dictatorship (purely for political reasons), quite a few excellent films came out of that country (even by women). In Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, women cannot drive, travel without permission, be in the same part of the building with men; they are also whipped for "moral indecency". Yet they are good old American friends, because of the good old petrodollar deal. Hypocrites.

Do you even know anything about us iranian relations? The cia overthrew the sha of iran in 1953 and have been screwing around not only in iran but the entire middle east since. In the last 1990s under the clinton administration the us gov provided iran with nuclear weapons capabilities\plabs. This was called operation merlin look it up in wikipedia. The us gov gave the iranians incorrect data and calculations ib hopes it would stall their nuclear program for a decade at least. Turns out a russiab scientist pretty much immediately noticed the plans were wrong and corrected them for the iranians. So america once again thinks its all hgih and mighty when in fact they could be more hypocritical. Can confirm I'm an American and our country is imploding

There's a difference between relations with foreign governments and what the people think of the U.S.

There is a very hostile relationship between the U.S. government and that of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Despite what is shown in "Argo" (although set in the emotional time right after the shah was deposed) the Iranian population today looks quite favorably at Americans.

On the other hand, the U.S. government is friendly with the Saudi government, for strategic and oil purposes, despite the human rights conditions in the country.

Despite the films that may come out of Iran(I liked "The Lizard") it's human rights conditions aren't much better than Saudi Arabia.

And for the comment below, it was the Iranian Prime Minister Mossadegh who was overthrown in 1953 and the Shah returned to power. Although films like "Argo" play up the CIA role, the Iranians I've known mostly blame the British.

First of all this movie was made in the US. Second of all, Iran comes out great films once in a while but not very often. A really dumb statement, congrats..

The film is an American film, which kind of takes something away from it because I had thought it was actually Iranian.

This movie was entirely shot in California by an Iranian-American director and an American crew. How exactly did it "come out" of Iran?

And what does "even by women" even mean? 
