Let the right one in....
Here's yer sign.
All great in their own rights. I have just seen A Girl tonight and am letting it sink in. My initial reaction was true love. I love that feeling when I get caught up in a celluloid world. Personally I would have edited 15 or so minutes out to tighten it up, but boy was it bliss. Let the Right One In is the clear winner over the American version, but right now it is neck and neck with Girl for me.
"Call me if you ever feel to old to drive" - Me and You and Everyone We Know
Just saw Girl tonight at Lightbox in Toronto and loved it. The entire audience was in stitches at some points. The two films are each good in their own rights and apples and oranges relative to each other. A more apt comparison would be to Only Lovers Left Alive, for some of the tone, stylization, and humour, but each of these three films are gems independently!
You can't be more horrific than life itself. - Francis Bacon
Definitely enjoyed it. I felt a little pressured with the style over substance at times, but as time goes on and I think of it, I appreciate it more.
Absolutely love the imagery with the hijab replacing a 'cape.' Easily the most unique vampire 'trait' in decades of stale film.
I've only seen the American version of Let The Right One In and between these two I would pick Let The Right One In. I have been told the original is even better. I was not a huge fan of A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, though it was a beautiful looking film. I hope this director ends up doing amazing things.
shareI hope this director ends up doing amazing things.
I mean I hope she does something that I find to be much more impressive than this. I think it looked good but it didn't move me at all, but it's obvious she has talent as a director, I'm hoping she can do something much much better in the future.
shareHuh? This film is getting loads of recognition for a unknown Director with an unknown/lesser known cast. It's showing at the top indy movie venues all over the country. I doubt it would get this much publicity if it weren't billed as an Iranian production by an Iranian Director. Not that it wasn't a well made film, but part of the intrigue is that it's perceived to be a horror film coming from a repressed country. The Director's next feature, I believe, will feature several name Hollywood actors. So don't worry about the Director's gender/ethnicity hurting her chances.

Partly agree with this. Technically the movie was sound. That's all. However, the only horror is that people could get the creeps with this silly pretentious movie and had the indignity to compare it with Let the Right One In.

I think this was already pretty amazing but if you mean you hope she ends up getting the recognition she deserves, well, she's an Iranian-American female indie director so my guess is it won't happen.
Of course, she'll get some recognition. Whatever makes you think she won't? This is the 21st century, you know.
But not everyone has a 21st century mentality, you know?
