It is a pretty film and b&w was the perfect choice but overall it was a bunch of random scenes and not much else happens. Borrows heavily from eraserhead in feel and morricone/tarantino for a lot of the music.
I completely agree. It's not a bad film, but in my opinion it was dull and I wasn't entertained. I can see the appeal though and it looks great! But yeah, not much to it. Although I feel I'm missing out on something, like there's an inside joke I'm not a part of. Maybe not...
Oh, I know what he's saying. I was just taking a mild shot at the clichéd, dismissive way he said it. In terms of critiquing a movie, "I fell asleep" is right up there with:
-- "A dozen people walked out of the screening I attended." (No, they didn't.)
-- "The critics are all idiots!" (Even those that agree with you? Did this movie get 100% or 0% on the Tomatometer?)
-- "The critics were all paid off!" (Odd that so many big-budget movies get bad reviews. Did someone just forget to pay off critics before Battleship previews?)
-- "Well, that's two hours I'll never get back." (If you like a movie, it's possible to reacquire the time spent watching it?)
-- "If you like/disliked Movie X, you're a moron." (No need to elaborate.)
-- "Only pretentious hipsters will like this." (Oh. So you're even more pretentious and hip than pretentious hipsters. Got it.)
Etc, etc. I'll say it again . . if you fall asleep during a movie, it means you were tired and needed sleep. That's all it means.

I have meddled with the primal forces of nature and I will atone.
You should probably just stick to cops and reality television. You love them explosions, car chases and cat fights, huh? Stop attempting to watch movies requiring reading. You're not there yet.
One thing I've noticed in a lot of reviews is that even people who don't particularly like the film tend to call it visually striking. This surprises me... I didn't find the film ugly or anything, but I thought the photography was merely... competent. The angles were well chosen to display the action (such as it is), and there were no jarringly unattractive compositions... I didn't feel that the film really benefited stylistically from the choice of black and white photography, either. So I'm curious, what is it that stands out to so many people as very beautiful about the photography? Were there some particular scenes that you enjoyed (while you were awake, I mean)?
They just watch films for the pretty pictures. Dialogue and plot goes over their head..as does most things in day to day life, im sure. You understand them.
