Remember when "fans" set up a petition against Charlie Hunnam because he wasn't "hot" enough?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/reliable-source/wp/2013/10/14/charlie-hunnam-exits-fifty-shades-of-grey-movie-the-angry-fans-won/

Wow, just imagine if men did this with an actress. WW3?

87,000 angry “Fifty Shades of Grey” fans who signed the Change.org petition demanding that lead actor Charlie Hunnam be replaced.

Hunnam, who apparently was horrified by the intense scrutiny that came along with landing the role of S&M enthusiast Christian Grey, has dropped out of the movie adaptation for “scheduling” reasons

Good that you found something 'new' to plant it on the board of Fifty Shades of Grey.

And you don't know what a world war is. ☻

reply

Do you know what the definition of "Ad Hominem" is?

reply

Do you know what socks are? 🧦

reply

Is this your sock account then?

reply

I don't use socks.
But you 🐭 have apparently enough on the run.

reply

Show us your evidence. Which you must have because you wouldn't go from ad hominem to fictional ad hominem would you? I mean that would out you as an idiot.

reply

You 🐭 didn't answer my question.
And I don't have to show you 🐭 anything.

reply

So you're an idiot then.

reply

Nope, but you're a shitty sock...one of many. 🧦

reply

Didn't know who he was but searched a pic- if he isn't "hot" enough then what hope do the rest of us have? And yeah you're right regarding the double standard. I can't see men caring enough to protest such a thing but you never know I guess.

reply

THE WORD HOT IS NEVER USED NOR IMPLIED...AND THEY LIST OTHER EXAMPLES OF THAT KIND OF FAN BACKLASH AND ONE OF THEM IS FEMALE.

PERHAPS IT WOULD BE BEST TO READ ARTICLES BEFORE MISQUOTING THEM?🤔

reply

Does it need to spelled out for you?

The fans didn't want Charlie Hunnam because he wasn't deemed hot enough to play Christian Grey. Body and looks shaming him.

It's quite obvious. Stop trying to defend because you're a left wing extremist and a blue haired lady on Twitter handed you a script with your opinion for today.

reply

NOT THAT IS MATTERS...BUT I VOTED FOR TRUMP...TWICE...I AM NO LEFTIST...I AM REALLY NOT AN EXTREMIST...I AM SIMPLY A PERSON.

NOBODY SAID "HOT" EXCEPT FOR YOU...OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT A HOT GUY IS AND OL CHARLIE DOES NOT FIT THE BILL...THAT'S COOL...MAYBE BE A LITTLE NICER THOUGH?🙂

reply

It's deploarable behaviour from the "fans". 80,000 plus signatures.

If the genders were reversed you would be calling for death to all signers, not trying to protect them because a blue haired lady on Twitter told you to.

reply

HE WAS WRONG FOR THE PART BASED ON THE DESCRIPTION OF THE CHARACTER IN THE BOOK...SAME EXCUSE USED TO FREAK OUT OVER BLACK ARIEL.

reply

Charlie Hunnam age today 43 years old
Nationality: British
Height 1.83 metres. 6 ft 1
Hair: Brown/Blonde (hair dye exists)
Eye colour BLUE
Build same.

Jamie Dornam age today 41 years old
Nationality: British
Height 1.8 metres. 6 ft
Hair: Brown/Blonde
Eye colour BLUE
Build same.

There's barely any difference. They almost look like cousins.

You're talking about a poorly written book, so where is this elaborate description of Christian Grey that makes people think Charlie Hunnam was a bad fit and Jamie Dornam wasn't? Is it the height? Did the book describe a smaller stature man? I'd love for you to point out lines from the book describing Christian Grey.

We both know what it was matey. Your left wing extremist views have pulled the wool over your eyes bruv.

reply

"SAME EXCUSE USED TO FREAK OUT OVER BLACK ARIEL."

Nobody made a petition with 80,000 signatures. A handful of ranting maniacs on Twitter are not an outrage.

Disney princess fans are mostly female. Vast, vast majority.

Women again huh? Wow deplorable behaviour. Thanks for pointing that out!

And before you start RANTING about the Disney Princess thing, we've already been through this before, and you backed out hard on it. Do you really want to waste more of your meagre brain power going at it again, to back out again?

reply

🤣YOU LOVE ME SO MUCH...LOOK AT ALL THE EFFORT YOU GO TO FOR ME...

SIMPLE MATH THOUGH...HUNNAM LOOKS LIKE A SURFER OR BIKER...NOT MR GREY...A SOPHISTICATED AND WEALTHY WEIRDO...HUNNAM IN THE ROLE WOULD BE LIKE MCQUEEN IN THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR...A CASTING RISK THAT COULD PAY OFF OR TURN TO DISASTER...BUT HE WAS IN NO WAY RIGHT FOR THE PART...SHIT...TO THIS DAY A LOT OF PEOPLE STILL THINK MCQUEEN WAS A WASH IN THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR.

reply

>HUNNAM LOOKS LIKE A SURFER OR BIKER...NOT MR GREY.

You ever heard of costume department? Like they'd put him in a biker outfit and not a suit, shaved with a sharp haircut.

He played a role in Sons of Anarchy, so now he will always be a "biker"?

Nice deflection. You couldn't point to the line in the book where it describes Christian Grey.

Women set up a petition to looks shame him. 80,000 plus signatures.

Switch genders, and you would be going nuclear over it, not defending the deplorable behaviour of the "fans".

reply

WRONG...I GAVE YOU A MAGNIFICENT COMPARISON...STEVE MCQUEEN AS THOMAS CROWN...TO THIS DAY MCQUEEN FANS ARE SPLIT ON WHETHER HE PULLED IT OFF...HE JUST WASN'T A REFINED,SUIT WEARING SNOB...HUNNAM LITERALLY PLAYED THE MCQUEEN ROLE IN THAT PAPILLON REMAKE...THEY ARE SIMILAR IN LOOK AND STYLE...ALSO...HUNNAM IS NOT A GREAT ACTOR...GOOD AT BEST...HE WAS WRONG FOR THE ROLE....BASED ON EVERYTHING EXCEPT HIS HOTNESS...HE IS PLENTY HOT...IN A MCQUEEN KIND OF WAY.

reply

So you can't point to a line in the books the fans were drawing on to describe Christian Grey?

"I GAVE YOU A MAGNIFICENT COMPARISON...STEVE MCQUEEN AS THOMAS CROWN"

blaaaaah!

Thomas Crown was not a character before the movie. There is no comparison. There was no book. No Thomas Crown before the movie. How could he "pull off" something to fans of Thomas Crown when Thomas Crown did not exist until the movie released starring Steve Mcqueen? Why would "fans" of Steve Mcqueen be split on his success in playing Thomas Crown?
haaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

"TO THIS DAY MCQUEEN FANS ARE SPLIT ON WHETHER HE PULLED IT OFF"

Where?

The original Thomas Crown is Steve Mcqueen.

"HUNNAM IS NOT A GREAT ACTOR...GOOD AT BEST...HE WAS WRONG FOR THE ROLE"

Oh god. Yes, I'm sure the CryLadies and femcells were all petitioning over Hunnams "acting" abilities.

And Jamie Woodblock is a good actor?

Goodbye. For the second time. Cya.

I personally don't have a problem with this, because it's a female fantasy written for women. The story doesn't really work for them if they aren't drooling over the male lead. The same way the story didn't work for me, but I don't believe that a young hot rich guy that every woman would want, would be so obsessed with having vanilla sex with this average woman. But again, the movie is targeting average woman, not me, and it's a fantasy.

With that said, I agree that people would lose their woke little minds if a woman was replaced because she wasn't hot enough. But sometimes it's necessary to story.

reply

how DARE YOU say its for women! i was told no stories are for men or women anymore, and that its sexist to assume this

reply

You can always tell who the target audience is by comparing the lead character, to their romantic love interest. If the lead is pulling someone way out of their league, and you question if this would ever happen, that is the target audience.

In this case we have an average woman living an average life, and she catches the attention of someone that is rich, young, good looking etc, everything that all women want, plus he’s Mr perfect, and he only has eyes for this remarkably average woman. It’s a fairy tale.

That doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy the movie if you aren’t part of the target audience, but this particular movie isn’t good enough to overcome it.

"But again, the movie is targeting average woman, not me..."

A well-elaborated expertise for a superficial OP with an old article about a fan petition.

reply

It's quite relevant in today's climate.

Switch genders and this wouldn't go down too well me thinks.

reply

Apparently, it's OK to set up a petition and pressure studios to change casting based on an actors or actresses looks.

Well, it's only Ok if it's against a man and women are setting up the petition.

Charlie Hunnam rolled with the punches, took the hit, and never spoke about it again until asked.

Maybe he should have set up a press campaign about the "backlash", online "bullying" and how he has PTSD from it to get some of those precious victim points. We know a few people who have said a lot more about a lot less.
