High Overseer's fate.

Okay so it's not okay for them to disgrace Corvo, but it's perfectly fine for Corvo to effectively do the exact same thing? Even if he doesnt kill ANYONE in the entire game, such an action would seem hypocritical. And letting the guy live, but disgraced doesnt really seem any better than ouright killing him.

Also, they simply took the branding at face value? No questions whatsoever? Overseers either lying dead everywhere and/or other Overseer's waking up with no idea how they fell asleep. The High Overseer being found unconcious by himself with no one who could have performed the branding to be found. I'm pretty sure for such a sentence, some sort of official review would have to be held. Nobody thought to ask his superiors if such an order was given?

With all the evidence, you'd think the concept that the High Overseer might have been knocked out and branded by the same person who either killed and/or knocked out all these other Overseers should have occured to SOMEBODY, even if the organization is corrupt. Rules may be rules, there ARE instances where they don't really apply and need to be considered. That's just basic common sense. Even for an organization run by jerks.

Yeah, the guy was a douche. I get that. And Justice of some sort has to be had. But the lack of even the most rudimentary of critical thinking really makes no sense. At least the nonlethal neutralization of the others made sense

1. Revenge solves everything. Corvo wanted his revenge for 6 months of torture, not revenge for the disgrace. He failed to do his job (protect the queen), that was his disgrace.
2. They are religious zealots. As told by the guards you overhear evidence is irrelevant, just as guilt is irrelevant if one were to suspected a witch.
In other news, Campbell have a lot of enemies in the ranks, as evident by his black book. No one of them would be sad to see him go.

Put all the pieces together and you'll see why this happened...

First, we know that Campbell was blackmailing other figures in the Abby.

Second, a large organization like that depends upon people having faith in them and believing they have moral high ground.

So taking that into account, it's not a hard pill to swallow that the rest of the Overseers, knowing Campbell was never qualified for the position of High Overseer, went along with the condemnation, knowing he deserved his fate.

Corvo spared his life, but brought him down to his knees not just because he had been part of a conspiracy to ruin him, but also because the man deserved to be cast down.

He is then forced to live as an outcast and eventually catches the plague, so yeah, totally sweet revenge. I honestly don't believe any target in the game (including DLCs) deserves to die, the alternate solutions are just too satisfying. Exceptions would just be Lady Boyle in which case it's a more positive fate because she's quite innocent, and bastard Havelock because there is no alternate for him, so killing him is better than nothing.
