Your favorite ending? :) And which one should be "true" for the sequel?

/*SPOILER ALERT*/

Hey all! :)

Very nice game overall, acutally, one of my favorite stealth games. :)

I enjoyed Corvo's journey very much, and loved the irony, consequences and
possibilites presented through the whole game. I also loved the possiblity of
3 quite different endings, and the route towards them (overall bodies, chaos & alarams through the game). One of the rare cases where it wasn't just what you did in the final
or penultimate level, nor was it some obscure optional task that needed to be done, but the things you did (or didn't do) through the entire game - that is, basically, how well did you hold back from using the awesome powers for killing and mayhem.

There has been some talk about a sequel for Dishonored (given the game has sold pretty well), but the fact is that Dishonored has 3 different endings.
Which ending should be regarded as "true"? Also, which was your favorite?

1) Empress Kaldwin Jr. ushers a new "golden" era of Dunwall as a wise and a kind ruler, Corvo lives out a happy&long life guiding her (with Samuel as his drinking buddy and Callista as his occasional friend with benefits :P)

2) Empress Kaldwin Jr. becomes a cruel, manipulative tyrant (much like Hiram or Havelock) and rules Dunwall with an iron, but steady hand and brings about some stability to the empire. Corvo is at her side, though Samuel and Callista & others are dead or gone.

3) Empress Kaldwin Jr. ends up dead. Chaos ensues and the empire falls apart.
Corvo escapes the crumbling empire on a ship.

I am kind of torn between the first and the second ending. I thought the "darker" ending was much more ironic and dramatic, but I'm a sucker for happy endings too. xD
The one where Emily dies didn't make much sense to me.

It's quite likely that the protagonist of the potential sequel won't be Corvo, but Emily or some other characters could re-appear.
Which ending do you think has the most "potential" for the sequel?
Or maybe they should take a bit from every ending - like in Deus Ex? :)

I think they shouldn't bother. Dishonored was fun stealth and an AMAZING game world to play around in, dripping with atmosphere.

I don't want Dunwall again. I want another well built game world next time around. If they keep the game world the same and just give us another city or another part of the world... they could a: try once again to deliver an awesome and original game world to play in and b: avoid the need to bother making any of Dishonored's endings "canon." If it happens in a new place with new characters then either A: the stranger has destroyed Dunwall, or B: the Stranger holds no or not enough sway in Dunwall.

Either way, him or another primal force could be attempting some kind of scheme in a different place for the sequel. I'd be just as happy if they didn't spell it out and left it to MY interpretation as to how it happened. Just like bethesda has done in Elder Scrolls and Fallout, to me MY "canon" is far more important to me than the "official" one.

I hear ya, but but I think that at least some references to the city of Dunwall are, well - inevitable. One thing that made Dishonored so awesome was the amount of detailed information in books, info on faraway places and history events, whale hunting and such...
If the sequel takes place after the events of Dishonored (not necessarily though, although probable), we are bound to hear/read some info on empress Emily Kaldwin, Royal Spymaster, the plague, etc. Did she usher a new golden era? Or was she a benevolent tyrant?

Although I agree that personal canon is VERY important, I think similarly. :)

I don't want Dunwall again.

Agreed completely.
Likewise, and it looks like they are going in this direction, given the current working title for Dishonored 2 is "Darkness of Tyvia". And if you remember the book content from Dishonored, Tyvia is a cold and northern island in the kingdom. Looks like it's going to be a very different place this time around. Makes the most sense.
Dishonored gave us only glimpses of kingdom, time to see it in more awesome detail.

If it happens in a new place with new characters then either A: the stranger has destroyed Dunwall, or B: the Stranger holds no or not enough sway in Dunwall.

Don't agree with tht one. We've pretty much seen that The Outsider (I presume you mean Stranger/Outsider) doesn't influence the physical world directly. He only observes, and from time to time he gives some people awesome powers just to raise some commotion.

The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the World..

Well, the way I should have put it... the Outsider's influence over people (like Corvo) could have destroyed Dunwall. We still don't really know exactly what kind of power or intellegence the Outsider even is. Or what motivates him or what his goals are. My current theories are (the popular one) he's some kind of nature spirit or god punishing Dunwall because of over-whaling, and (my own idea) that he is a Susanoo style "outcast god" who helps and harms humanity on "whim" because he's bored and chaos is "fun."

Yep, this was the ending I preferred...a happier one.

Empress Kaldwin Jr. ends up dead. Chaos ensues and the empire falls apart.
Corvo escapes the crumbling empire on a ship.

I hated this ending. :(

Low Chaos Ending is my preferred one ( The Outsider saying "Farewell, Corvo" gives me goosebumps each time.

Well Emily and Corvo are both returning for the sequel so the third ending is out. Much like you, I'm a sucker for happy endings so I always consider the most positive ending as canon, however the sequel said that Emily has been removed from power somehow and isn't currently in Dunwall, so I'm not sure what that implies.
