I kinda agree with you, i gave it a 5 myself. On the other hand, the movie also has one, if not the, biggest WTF ending i've ever seen in my life and just because of it i find myself thinking about the movie more often than i care to admit. If it wasn't for that (dare i say brilliant?) ending, i would have forgotten the movie a long time ago; yet, as good as it was, it only partially redeems the fact that the viewer has to go through some excruciating sluggishness before finally witnessing an event that at last stimulates the brain and piques curiosity.
Moreover, after having been pretty much bored for 90min, the ending made me research upon the meaning of the movie and as a result I've watched various YouTube explanatory videos, which helped me make some sense of what i had just seen. All that would never had happened without that specific ending.
At last, even if i found the movie underwhelming all in all, i still recommend it to my more artsy film buff friends, which, again, wouldn't have happened without that specific out-of-this-world ending. Some like it, some hate it.
In conclusion, i understand why you have stopped the movie in the middle, yet i would urge you to take the time to finish it one day. This is one of the reason why i never stop a movie until i've finished it, sometimes there are surprises at the end worth the wait and it certainly was the case with this movie, as for me.
Still a 5 though. Better than Dogville or Under the Skin, but worse than Requiem for a Dream or Mulholland Drive. On par with Melancholia.
