Absolutely agree with you!

The high point is Elizabeth Shaw and her search for the origins of man.
Were we created with a great purpose? Or just because they can?

Eh? Didn't they discover in Prometheus that mankind was scene as a failure to the engineers and that the guy's spaceship had broken down on route to Earth to wipe everyone out?

reply

We don't know if he was going to wipe out the earth, or just test biological weapons. Her quest continued after this. She wanted answers.

reply

Well Shaw seems to know for sure - she tells them they need to stop the ship from taking off or there won't be a home (Earth) to go back to.

So we have that and the fact they know the engineers created mankind in the first place. Therefore any further "quest", in terms of discovering any "greater purpose", doesn't really make any sense...

As someone who didn't care for Prometheus, I agree that they should've just made a sequel to that instead of whatever this crap is. Prometheus was respectable and ambitious but went nowhere, and they should've built off of that. I think Ridley Scott took a lot of the criticism about how you barely see the aliens to heart and decided to show that all in the sequel.

reply

How could a sequel have been made to this?? It seemed pretty cut & dry the way it ended?? What they should NOT have done was shoehorned that ending with the ALIEN plopping out of the dead Engineer and it clearly looked shoehorned in at the last minute to tie this in with ALIEN

reply

It definitely does NOT end cut & dry. Doesn't it literally end on a cliffhanger???

reply

Eldris sacrifices himself blowing up the ALIEN ship leaving for earth and the final scene is Dr. Holloway jetting off with the android to the planet where humans come from only to be dead in the next movie ALIEN COVENANT

reply

I think what we're all agreeing on here is that "Dr. Holloway jetting off with the android to the planet where humans come from" is the open ending, and that's where the next film should've picked up at. We should've continued the story from that point.

reply

From what I understand, Naomi Rapace had another movie she was in at the time of ALIEN COVENANT and couldn't get out of it to film the scenes for the Alien movie and so they went a different direction

reply

She is the hero of the story. Her quest is the story."

She's the hero of the story?? Her recklessness and inability to research this planet she was taking this crew to 500,000,000 Miles away from home that was potentially hostile was on her

reply

She has 'faith'. Did you miss that?

reply

Great.. Her "Faith" nearly killed off the entire crew except for Edris Elba

reply

The premise of Prometheus, the story of the Ancient Astronauts, is very interesting, but it was so bad done (blame to Damon Lindelof) that basically it destroyed everything that was suggested.
