Why explain the origin? What storytelling or creative benefit does it serve?
The only thing this movie had going for it was Fassbender's performance(s). Absolutely masterful. Really wanted to like this movie, but disappointed in the extreme.
shareMore revenue for Fox, the producers, the filmmakers, etc. I think it is also because Ridley Scott has strayed pretty fully into George Lucas territory, where he wants to endlessly tinker with his previous creations.
