(Spoiler) When the landing craft neared the planet

The first craft loaded with guards and crew neared the alien planet, not knowing what exists there- and they set down in quite cavalier fashion next to water.

Why the hell didn't they hover from several hundred feet and scan the locality for life signs (As they did in Aliens)? Couldn't there have been dangerous organisms in the water, or woodland nearby? Duh.

Just re-watched it and still this is a brainless idea on an unknown and potentially dangerous [inhabited] planet?

I was expecting them to a last have launched a drone from orbit to remotely scan the planet at the very least. I guess thats too much to expect as its now a given in modern scifi that people just instantly take of their helmets the second they land on a world with oxygen. Star trek is guilty of this by teleporting with out environmental suits but usually after some one blurts out "No harmful microbes detected captain".

Took the words right out of my mouth. They paid less attention to detail to that aspect than in Prometheus.

reply

Yes, idiotic - even today police send in robots to detect danger and gather intel in potentially dangerous situations?

reply

Discussed this with workmates today, everyone agreed this was brainless for a pilot and crew to do.

With all the other dumb shit they did in this movie you were actually expecting logic in that scene?

Because it's not a "process movie" that gets into the minutiae of how they do their work and are able to survive...

I think you guys would be better off watching a movie like Contagion (good movie) to see all the realistic science talk and protocol about disease control that you guys seem to lust after... https://moviechat.org/tt1598778/Contagion πŸ€”

Covenant is an alien slasher movie, with an out of control robot and crew stranded on a deserted planet... Not exactly the premise for a documentary πŸ˜‚ ... they even made several Alien vs. Predator movies... 🀣

The cinema must be a confusing place for you guys... With all that make believe and imagination... 😁

No confusion, just disappointment.

Completely agree with the OP's observations. It's clear.

In Aliens they hover above the complex in case of nasties, but here they simply land on an unknown and potentially a hostile planet? What exploration or military craft would do that?

Not even a scout drone?

And the Captain starts laying out where everything will be built in around 10 steps from the ship.
