You should never use phrases like "jump the shark" because they were played-out and annoying by the second time you heard them (like punctuation something by saying "wait for it").
But if you are going to use the phrase "jump the shark" (and again, you shouldn't), you should at least learn its correct usage.
By definition, something has to have been around for a long time (and popular at some point) for it to get the chance to "jump the shark".
The show was only on 5 minutes too long until it decided to jump the shark
