New House Boy?

I dont get the insult when Michael stated to Damon that Nick was the new house boy. It seemed insulting and Damon called him out on it later but I dont understand what they are implying....does anyone know?

I took it to mean Nick was something like a domestic, a servant, or even kind of a "plaything" - brought on not because he could actually contribute, but because there was some "personal" reason. I got part of that because Damon had some rejoinder like "He's doing good, swinging a hammer and doing some nailing" or some such.

Also, later Maya offers Nick a place to stay on a cot in the back or basement of the bar so he "won't have to sleep in his car anymore." She goes on to say that it was because Nick was really proving his worth with his contributions at helping fix up that old abandoned house, so it wasn't just because she and Damon were feeling sorry for him.
