Not even the actors are defending this show.

"Low Winter Sun" star James Ransone said his AMC series "wasn't a good show."

"I had higher expectations going in. They can’t all be winners," Ransone told The Wrap.

The actor, who is currently appearing off-Broadway in "Small Engine Repair," acknowledged his show's ratings troubles.

"If it doesn’t get canceled, I’ll be goddamn shocked," Ransone said. "The ratings were terrible."

James Ransome never did any press for the show from what I saw. He was the only one of the main cast not to do that pre-screening Q&A in Ann Arbor (you can watch the video on the show's site).

It's obvious he never was a fan. Other cast members seem to have dug the show (Sprague Grayden was especially enthusiastic every time I saw her talk about it). So, it's one of those things where I don't particularly think you can look at how any one actor felt and try to make conclusions about "not even the actors are defending this show" -- because some did and are.

Also, homeboy got killed off, so if he's talking smack about the show now, he's got nothing to lose.

I always found his character to be one of the show's weak points, to be honest.

He strikes me as a bit of an a-hole in real life and his comments make him sound bitter and spoiled. Who knows, it may have been a bad experience for him, maybe he didn't get along with producers or cast mates. Regardless, I think it's unprofessional and makes him seem ungrateful; I'm sure there are hundreds of others who would love to have had the opportunity.

He's been cast in a few HBO series. Perhaps he's just used to HBO productions and maybe, as you said he had a bad experience with AMC. Which wouldn't surprise me at all. From what I've gathered, AMC doesn't respect any of their shows. Not even Breaking Bad or The Walking Dead. The only reason nobody really speaks out about them is fear of legal reprisals. After Frank Darabont was fired from TWD, there were a few sources (anonymous of course) that said AMC threatened all of the cast and crew with lawsuits should they say anything about what happened.

While I agree that panning a show while its fate was undecided was a bit of a dick move, I don't blame him for giving his true impression. I think he should have at least waited until the series was cancelled before trashing it. Then all bets are off.

Oh, I do love this actor's interviews and personal rants. Very direct, no-nonsense, often harsh, delight to read.

However, guy shat where he eats. This is showbiz. Not only do you have to smile and nod when you don't have enough clout in the business, but trashing your previous works publicly does make one seem like an ingrate, no matter how high up in the food chain you are. At least you're working.

Can't say I disagree, though, this show had everything going on with it in theory, but the execution was just miserable. Just sat through it for Mark Strong and homeboy.
