AMC has to have something. This will be Mad Men's final season.

If AMC is splitting up the MM season into 2 parts, then it shows how weak they are.

Because they are weak now, they have to give LWS a chance, until they buy another series.

I don't see why they would feel the 'need' to. They have several new original projects slated for 2014 (Halt and Fire, Turn, Line of Sight), the Breaking Bad spinoff underway, the Walking Dead spin-off, and then another two more years of Mad Men.
