Terrible accent

His accent is so bad in this, poor Jason. Really like him, but he can't do American accents well at all. Really bad!

I think you'll find it isn't at all. He is trying to speak with an American accent. He can't do it. Pay attention.

Oooh somebody's tired

I quite frankly don't care. The accent in the trailer is terrible. It's part American and part cockney

reply

Oh dear

Somebody's embarrassed.

reply

Err no, not at all.

reply

You just don't get it, do you? Oh sorry, y-o-u j-u-s-t d-o-n-t g-e-t it d-o y-o-u? There, that's better.

Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.

reply

Nah i thought so too but it's deffo pommy

reply

Wouldn't you say that if he emigrated to this country, became a citizen, and joined the DEA until he retired that he'd have a partial American and a partial Cockney accent? So it isn't terrible, it's a natural progression.

*Amarillo* --Euripides? Eumenides!

reply

To be honest, we are taking about Jason Statham, not an actor that would have really thought about that and decided to immerse himself in the character and give it a backstory!

reply

how do you know? he might be a really intense method actor who comes up with a really inventive backstory for his characters for all we know.

And it's definitely his normal accent your just not listening properly.

reply

Ha ha ha ha ha. Best reply ever

reply

Not necessarily. I've lived in the US for 15 years and still sound like I moved here from Britain yesterday.

I've lived in Britain for the past 19 years and I still have my American accent.

And the director has already confirmed what we can all hear - his natural accent.

reply

That's the way he speaks.

reply

Shush little one. This is boring now

You pay attention. He's speaking with his normal accent - which is a 100% English accent. And no, he doesn't sound half American like you claim. That's just your cloth ears not knowing the goddamn difference between accents.

reply

Jees, let it go. This is old news and you are clearly a superfamily of the bad scented Statham.

Have you got nothing better to do than reply to old posts?

Shhh now

reply

To me it sounded like is usual accent.

Now what WAS bad was Statham's "Texan" accent in Parker.

I winced through that whole ordeal.

reply

He's pretty bad at most accents, but yes, that was horrendous!

reply

Now what WAS bad was Statham's "Texan" accent in Parker.

Even worse was his American accent in Cellular.

reply

I thought this thread was going to be about James Franco's godawful "Southern accent."

reply

Definitely a Brit accent.

reply

Totally

reply

You obviously don't like him that much, cause you haven't payed attention. He's speaking the same way he did in The Expendables.

Fighting a religious war is like fighting over whose imaginary friend is better.

reply

Payed?

He wasn't trying to do an American accent, which is a good thing, because he simply can't. And there is nothing wrong with that. He tried to change his accent most notably for Parker when he was pretending to be a Texan, and it didn't work at all. Jason Statham is awesome, and I'm impressed with a lot of his performances, especially considering he has no formal acting training whatsoever.

reply

I would prefer if he used an American Accent in this film

reply

Me too Leanne, me too

reply

Old post or not, I just saw the movie and he wasn't trying to do an American accent for most of the movie. At the start when he was wearing that silly wig in that undercover job he had, it sounded like he had a semi-American accent but wasn't sure and the movie wasn't worth re-watching at the start to confirm this.

reply

Agreed, he was attempting an American accent when undercover. I was so relieved when he reverted back to speaking normally

reply

So they're making a film about a tough-ass ex US law enforcement all-American hard working middle class super dad in small town USA, call it HOMEfront, even place the star spangled banner on the promotional poster, but pick a guy with a British accent for the role!??? Doesn't make a lot of sense if you ask me...

reply

He's Sly's buddy, that's the only reason he was cast in this role.
