I thought Homefront was a solid specimen of it's genre.
So we're not talking about a new iconic action classic like die hard 1, terminator, predator or alien 8:th passenger. Homefront aint' either one of those great action film which are refered to when discussing about the action films that any movie goer should see such as leathal weapon, conan the barbarian, commando, taken 1, rambo first blood or deathwish - just to mention few examples.
Homefront is made purely for us, genre fans and it has this "80s b-action film" feel in it. I personally thought it was definitely worth of my time. Heck i've seen plenty of more generic attempts. I'm first to admit that Homefront suffers from few serious flaws and its unlikely that i'm going to rewatch it any time soon, but Homefront stays quite entertaining to the end (the ending on the bridge was too much of a cliche though).
So in my opinion Homefront should be compared to those iconic b-action films such as Red heat, showdown in little tokio, above the law, bloodsport, out for justice, rocky IV etc. I doubt that homefront will cherished like meantioned b-action classics, but it was surprisingly old school film and it deserves some recognition for that!
Lastly to give more context here, let me just say that I enjoyed Homefront a lot more than those modern pg 13 rated so called "die hard sequels" aka die hard 4 and die hard 5.
