Their thinking was that the punch to the stomach would probably have incapacitated him, making him bleed was training taking over the correct assessment of the situation - which can sometimes be a bad thing.

shareNothing. That kid deserved it. It only angered the parents because they probably know that he DID do it and were embarrassed (that their son was a bully and that he had his ass handed to him by a girl). So their natural reaction was to point the finger at the girl.

personally, more power to her for sticking up for herself.
as far as the movie is concerned though...
- they were new in town, so the locals were already untrusting of them, add on the fact that a little girl beat up a boy bigger than her.
- the cop, or the counselor, mentioned that the boy was special needs. not to mention his mother is an abusive meth head with a crazy brother that everyone in town is afraid of.
