Frances O'Connor playing Rose Selfridge

I'm so curious about the reason for casting Frances O'Connor as Rose Selfridge. She's a British actress cast to play an American woman (a Chicago socialite specifically) living in Britain. I wonder what it was about her that stood out to the casting directors.

Because they needed actors who were available to shoot the series in England. And it’s a lot cheaper if they hire someone who already lives there. Gillian Anderson, Kim Cattrall and Elizabeth McGovern all live in England and have played Americans on UK tv.

O’Connor has played American characters before.
