Ms. Mardle finally tells Gordon off!

So that was a long time in coming. He really needed to be told what an awful person he has been to her. Someone who has always been wonderful to him. He was an awful jerk and he does not deserve her.

reply

She didn't say a word to Gordon. Gordon is Selfridge's son, the deputy manager of the store.

She told off Mr. Grove. Roger.

And you're right, he deserved every word of it. She should have called the police when he refused to leave her house. I was disappointed when she gave in and hugged him. I sure hope she's not going to fall back into bed with him.

reply

She will. This series does not let fact get in the way of a good soapy story.

reply

I was disappointed when she gave in...

God, so was I. I was so happy she'd finally recognized his abusive, self-serving behavior towards her, and called him on the carpet for what he was. His refusal to leave her home was just another demand that she bend to his will. She should've called the police and had him ejected from her house.

Her giving in to him made me lose respect for her.

reply

I lost respect for the writers who think I bought that tripe.

reply

I would've been happier if he apologized and groveled to convince her to stay and keep her job, but then pined for her the rest of his life while she happily took up with someone new. Why'd they have to kill off Florian?! :(

She has kept up with his manipulations and lies for years so i think it kinda makes sense that she wants to 'enjoy her victory' when he appologizes for all that. It may not be smart but it is what many people do: they keep giving in to emotional pressure and convince themselves that 'it is okay, because this time he has really changed'. After wasting so many years on him she wants some sort of pay-off for it, preferably in the form of him finally loving her.
The thing every weak person wants is for someone to be in their debt. Roger knows that, knows she can be manipulated with appologies and with 'i will fight for your love' (by refusing to leave)

I am dissapointed that she hasn't grown enough to tell to go *beep* himself.
A shame Florian is gone, part of their love might have stemmed from him being scared and lonely but at least he treated her with respect.

reply

Oh, poor Florian. Loved him. Wish they hadn't killed him off so Miss Mardle could have been happy. - she deserves better than Roger

reply

I have never understood why she put up with him. He's a whiny, weak, selfish man from start to finish.

reply

Maybe he's REALLY good in bed (or the bathtub)? Although it's doubtful that a woman of her age and station would have had much basis for comparison in that day and age - the first time around, before Florian, I mean.

reply

It's a funny idea, but I highly doubt that any man that selfish, who thinks of women solely in terms of their benefit to him, is a very generous lover.

When she gave in, he sighed. And I thought sighs didn't matter! 😉

😄

Yeah, but that didn't last long. What a door mat.
