So nothing good will happen to Harry ever again???

I'm giving this one more episode, and then I am out. Historical accuracy be d*mned, this is just too depressing! I'm not looking for a turn of the tide, just for one tiny little win. Poor Harry! :-(

It really IS difficult to watch, isn't it? Even with the fun side stories with fashion and other characters up to interesting things...the core of the story is deeply saddening and totally depressing.

Watching Harry self-destruct on every level is really a hard thing to watch.

It makes one wonder how different the character's life (and the real life Harry) would have been if Rose had lived. In real life she was quite the businesswoman in her own right buying properties and having a business background.

It's like Harry just came unglued with no core in his life, once Rose was gone. And he's just been steadily unravelling since. He's a guy who needed to have a sensible anchor at home to talk sense to him and keep him centered.

Now...ugh.

I was watching all that financial stuff in episode 3, thinking constantly that...tick tock...October 1929 is just months away after his bold and dodge shares floating scheme.

Yikes. Crash. Bang. Boom. More Depression, literally and figuratively to look forward to. Oh dear...

I'm thinking it should be re-title Mr Selfcentered. Because he has money(still), people refuse to see his escapism as an addiction. Some people just drink in nicer sewers.

I somehow think that Mr Selfridge may have saved himself had he decided to love and live with Lady Mae, now she's returned, it's so sad to see him being made a fool of by the Dolly sisters.

You do realize that Hrry and the sisters were real people, and the show depicts things that actually happened, but that Lady Mae is a fictional character, right?

reply

I see I'm not the only one who ships Selfridge and Lady Mae.

reply

They would have been great together, but it can't happen because this series is portraying the decline of HGS.
