Miss Mardle's Transformation

Miss Mardle looks so lovely this season in her beautiful black tiered dress with the embroidered flowers. Even though the War brought her tragedy, it is good to see that she picked herself up and went back to a promotion at Selfridges. I like seeing a woman of a certain age looking good and getting ahead!

Agreed! It's been fun to watch her transformation, and I'm also glad she finally got laid by a young, sweet hunk who loved her!  Now, I just hope that Lady Mae comes back in S4 and has some good fortune as well.

reply

I agree, but...now that Mr Grove's wife has died, he's going to need a lot of help. I hope Miss Mardle's good heart doesn't land her back with him. I could see him angling to move himself and his brood into her lovely home!

Dang! I hadn't seen the most recent episode when I posted this. Now they've given Miss Mardle something to feel guilty about re: her involvement with Mrs. Grove just before the poor girl's death. Why did they have to bring Miss Mardle down? Plus, I think you're right that Mr. Grove is going to try to get back together with her, which will just make her feel worse about her inside knowledge about the baby's paternity.😞

reply

Her greatest guilt is feeling indirectly (or directly?) responsible for the death of Mrs. Grove. A truly tragic turn of events but that's drama. I don't see them getting back together because of that. It must be weird for Brits reading posts like this, knowing what happens.

MIRANDA PRIESTLY (Devil Wears Prada): "And I want that unpublished Harry Potter manuscript on my desk by 3PM. The twins want to know what happens."

reply

I'm glad that after last night's episode the baby's paternity is out in the open. I'm hoping that the father and his "young lady" will take the baby.

I still feel so badly for Miss Mardle. I could see Mr Groves blaming her somehow, but I feel it is a real stretch to blame her for Mrs Grove's death. He has always been a bit of a jerk, though.

I really don't know why the writers think we want to watch every single person in the show suffer.

reply

Could you BELIEVE her transformation again last night? She looked completely spent, after suddenly looking youthful and attractive before. I don't even know how they can do that with make-up.

I think Amanda Abbington is an amazingly versatile actress. Have you seen her in Sherlock? Looks completely different in that, too.

reply

I agree! Poor Miss Mardle. And I do remember her from Sherlock; she is quite the chameleon.

I am reminded of this brilliant scene from Benjamin Button: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E548-OkACkc

I think Mr. Grove being a selfish man, only thinks of himself. I think Ms. Mardle should stay away from this man at all costs.

reply

I agree. So far Mr Grove has been nothing but a cad. I feel that he would have to have a complete turnaround, followed by a sincere apology for all of his oafish behavior in the past, for Miss Mardle to even consider remaining his friend.

reply

I have just watched the season finale and Miss Mardle reads the riot act to Grove, who is definitely a most selfish man. He is beginning to see that he needs her and also see the error of his ways, but not before time.

She is gorgeous !

My favourite character in the series!

She has been sorely missed in series 4, just when we thought perhaps her time had come with Mr. Grove.

But alas, it seems the bright lights of New York called to her as, Mr. Grove said. He seemed to understand being step mother to five was not exactly her professional plan!

She has been explained away, but is missed very much!

I am wondering with the turn of events with Mr. Grove in Friday's episode, whether or not Miss Mardle might be making a cameo appearance in the series, either for the childrens' sake perhaps stepping in out of care for them and Mr. Grove, or just to return for...well, you know. To say goodbye.

Surely Mr. Crabb will be on the horn to Miss Mardle in NYC to tell her what's happening, in case she wishes to return to see Mr. Grove.

Fingers crossed...........!

I saw her in the S4 promo clip. I hope she comes back soon.

reply

She's in the promotional stills for episode 5.

Mrs Mardle's transformation is quite outstanding. I used to love her hairstyle in season 1 when she was austere as chief of fashion department and her look had to be moderate.
Then she found a young lover and the times had changed and the female looks either and she become more self confident and curled.

You can say the same of Kitty Hawkins. In season 4 she seems quite different from the start.

I love how the show keeps on considering the changing style of its characters.
