Harry's grown children

Am I the only one who is driven nuts by the fact that Harry's daughters have American accents but his son has a British one? So ridiculous.

reply

His son was educated in England, as part of Harry's (failed) ambition to be accepted by the aristocracy; his daughters went home with their mother every year and received their schooling in the Chicago area

His daughters have American accents? Is that what they are trying to do?

njgill, thanks for that! It still doesn't make sense to me when he lived in Chicago until high school age and he Americns parents. Oh well! Wonder what the real one sounded like!

Harry's real son differed in many ways from the portrayal in the series - for one thing, he never married his shopgirl mistress until after Harry died, even though they had four children together.

It drives me nuts, too, and is hammered home now by the granddaughter having an English accent--unlike her mother who sounds like a gangland moll from a Jimmy Cagney movie.
