I guess we'll be in for some filler (dare I say pledge drives?) between the beginning of March and the 27th, then?

It also looks as though DA won't be broadcast on February 28. What's up with that? I'm also a little ticked off about the current Sunday night 8 pm time slot. Why can't they show Call the Midwife yet? 

Are you not aware that each PBS station can set its own schedule? (But they can't run shows, especially imports, ahead of the contracted date.)

reply

Of course I know that. I meant February 28.

Check the schedule.

I have in my hand the February program guide for KAET-8, the PBS outlet in Phoenix AZ - it clearly shows a scheduled broadcast of Downton Abbey on 2/28/16. In fact, Channel Eight will be showing all 8 episodes of Season 6 that day, because the regular season's last episode will be shown on 2/21. The Christmas Special season and series finale has always been scheduled for March 6 in the US.

reply

I only have access to the Masterpiece Schedule on the PBS website, and they clearly show no ep on Feb 28 (which is what I meant by "check the schedule"). The nationwide site is showing it as no ep on that date.

So your local station is showing reruns of the entire series/season? (I have no idea what my local station is showing; it's not on their website that far in advance.) Which brings me back to my original question of why they skip a week. Nothing like milking one program for all it's worth. Something that hasn't been shown yet in the US would be preferable imo to reruns.

reply

I'm a little late with this answer, but the reason PBS skipped February 28 for DA's finale was because ABC was televising The Oscars, and they didn't want to compete. That's why they postponed the finale till the first Sunday in March. (CBS and NBC also used 'filler' that night, not to compete with the Oscars).

Thank you. I realized that much later. I'm curious to learn if the Phoenix area really did screen a previously unseen ep of DA on Feb 28.

reply

Yes, there was an all-day marathon of Season 6 episodes 1-8, as I had said there would be. Did you think I was lying?

reply

No, obviously I wondered if the schedule had been misprinted. But do feel free to continue in this rude vein.

reply

P.S. I don't think ep 6x08 was "new" as of Feb 28. Didn't that ep air on Feb 21?

reply

As I originally posted:

There was no mention of a "new" episode that day. You will need to expect to be treated with annoyance, if not worse, as long as you neglect to read for comprehension.

reply

repeats are filler, which is what I was referring ti in MY original post, to which you rudely replied "Are you not aware..."

reply

If I remember correctly, my local PBS station (Boston) also ran a marathon all day Sunday/Sunday night (Feb 28) of the last season of DA - again, not to compete with all the Oscar coverage - which seemed to be endless and needless at the same time.

Yes, I've corrected it. Thanks.
