I know he was an ass and took Ms Mardle for granted but I was so happy when they finally came back together. It was so heartbreaking in that final scene when Meryl came outside to find him passed. Josie loved him so much and I believe he loved her just as much. I'm glad they came together in the end and the children will be in perfect hands with her. They love her and she loves them. He will always be with her. If her story were to go on, I bet she would not find another love and be content with what he gave and left her. So bittersweet.

I feel like mr grove only married mrs mardle because he knew he was dying and needed a mother for his children.

I don't think so. That was part of it because he didn't want his children orphaned but its not like he was covering that motive up. And Ms Mardle knew that. They both were finally giving in to each other. The timing was right for them finally, unfortunately that time wouldn't be very long. :(

I disagree and see mr. Groove in a different light. I think he's probably the most improved person compared to how he was in season one. He was a hard worker, we saw him as a good father before he knew of his illness, and Remember he originally wanted mrs mardle to back home and move on with her life.

I don't mean he married her so his kids would have a mother in the negative sense. He stopped letting his pride get in the way (both of them) and realized he needed her in more ways than one. Life was short...literally and figuratively. He was dying, we know his children meant the world to him. He had to be thinking that when that came, they would have a mother in Ms Mardle...errr, Mrs Grove.

Definitely have mixed feelings about the guy. Hence I didn't find myself crying when he died as I would have with almost any other character (Jimmy comes to mind; a very sad story). The actor was great in the part tho, I won't forget him. Wonder how fictional this character was?
