Audrey and Derek: Gift or Curse SPOILERS

Loved the movie. I thought it was an original take on the vampire genre, but I have noticed something.

There seems to be a debate about why Derek was turned. After Clif tells Derek to use his illness to pick up a girl, he meets Audrey and we assume he does this, as Audrey goes back to the hotel with him. So we know that Audrey is aware of Derek's illness, and that leads to my next point.

The first theory is that Audrey was trying to put Derek out of his misery as he was dying already, but she was interrupted when Clif and co came to "film them doing it". This is supported when Audrey's friend says "she never meant to turn you"

The other theory is that she felt sorry for Derek and thought she was giving him a gift. In the end she says "I thought I was being kind"

In my opinion Audrey was extending Derek's life. His life was going to be cut short by his illness, and she thought he would appreciate it. It makes no sense that Audrey would be euthanising Derek in my opinion. Yes he may be dying but he is having the trip of a lifetime, and it would be cruel for him to die before that is over (opposing her "I thought it was kind").

I believe it could be taken both ways. So, what do you think happened?

... (you can't choose not to kill, but you can choose who you kill...blah blah)
"Why did you choose me?"
"You were dying. I thought I was being kind."

Doesn't seem like there's much room for debate...

I agree - she chose Derek because she was going to kill him. She got interrupted and 'accidentally' turned him. Her kindness was to kill him quickly.
