I suppose the initial stuff was necessary as part of their trip documentation, but it seemed out of place, slow, and almost unnecessary.
You needed the stuff in the beginning to support his character at the end. All that stuff is what made his decisions at the end make sense for who he is

shareI agree 100%, except in regards to the beginning of the film. The beginning is really vital for fleshing out the story and it didn't drag at all. This movie moved at a pretty solid pace.
