Is this fad ever going to disappear?

Found footage movies suck! (no pun intended) They're nauseating and have weak stories with camera usage that is not plausible. There are certain times in these movies where no one would be holding a camera. I wish the genre would disappear.

But as far as these types of movies go, this one was one of the better ones. It started off a wee bit too slow for me. The guys were too goofy and uninteresting to hold attention. It did get better. It would've been even better had it been shot as a regular movie.

Spoiler Rant!
Clif was an idiot. Your think your friend is turning into a vampire, you see him on the floor not looking proper and growling (theres a big hint right there), so you decide buy into the fact that he's a vampire by slitting your wrist to feed him. Whether he was a vampire or not, that was just plain insane. Ain't no friendship that strong.

And If I were Derek, I would've been making every attempt to buddy up with Audrey. She knows the ropes, and she's hot.

Cool point though for these guys making the effort to put their own movie out there.

Yeah, vampire puns totally bite. They're a pain in the neck. Bloody annoying. They make me cross. In fact, they drive me up the wall.

Instead of wishing them to disappear - so that they don't exist for the people that enjoy watching them - how about you just don't watch them? Let other people enjoy what they enjoy, and you ignore what you don't enjoy. Seems more rational to me.

Well at the time it was presented to me with some friends, I didn't know it was a FF movie. And if you enjoy them, then more power to you. I think they suck. It's just my opinion. Don't let it ruin your day.

I don't particularly enjoy "them" in the same generalized terms that you dislike them. To me, they're like any other film - they're either good or they aren't. I don't subscribe to the same notion you do that any one particular genre is bad just because it belongs to that genre.

Says the guy whose day was ruined because he watched a FF movie even though he doesn't like them (and before you repeat yourself that you didn't know, it's clear from the very first 10 minutes that it's a FF and you could have stopped the movie or left the room but you chose to keep watching) and it was ruined so much that he just had to go online and complain about it, but then contradicts himself after complaining about them and says he actually liked this one. Well, if they disappeared, you wouldn't have gotten to see this "good" one.

I personally think it all depends upon the type of film and the contents/direction of the story, the strength of the characters etc. True, the genre itself seems to be fairly saturated at this point (annoyingly so), however, I've seen some found footage films that I've enjoyed.

I'd think it would have to do more with the amount of sequels/triquels within the genre itself (see: Paranormal Activity) that get really tedious after a while.

I agree. I hate found footage films but actually enjoyed this one a lot.

It will disappear (and probably reappear) at some point. In 19th century literature found 'footage' was a trope of sorts to claim authenticity. Sort of what happened in film since Blair Witch - I say since BW, but it was used in Italian cannibal films too. It was parodied in literature, like everything turns into parody (and then nostalgia) at some point; the same will probably happen in film.

Found footage movies will never go away.

Why?

They're cheap to make, so amateur filmmakers can have a crack, don't need a studio, can use Adobe Aftereffects on a decent laptop for special effects, etc.

AND once in a great while, a cheaply made one (paranormal activity) will gross hundreds of millions.
