Questions from a non-Nordic unfamiliar with Norsk mythology creatures

1) Jordskott : Those were the little balls we see people (Eva, Storm,...) ingest, right ? It's a plant-based parasite which helps the host recover and gives him/her special powers.

2) The cab driver : He was one of the creatures, since he had no birth record and had cut off his tail. But what creature was he, a troll ?

3) Esmeralda : Possessed powers, but was she also a troll or something else ?

4) Muns : Was he also a troll ? If so, then how can it be he was "the last of his kind", when the cab driver, Esmeralda, etc were still around ? If not, what exactly was he ?

5) The water creature : Without it, the river died. But we saw several when that old cop (Gran) was killed. What kind of creature was that ?

6) The secret society : Wass belonged to it (he wore the ring matching the cover of the book) and met with the shady guy that had Gran killed. Who are these folks ? People carrying a Jordskott and protecting its secret. Why ? Or was their more to their sigul ?

1. That's exactly right, although it appears to be something that was made up for the series. I don't think anything like this actually exists in Norse Folklore.

2. The cabdriver was a Hulder (male: Huldrekall), they are a type of forest spirit or siren.

3. Esmeralda was also a Hulder. It never mentions her tail so one can only assume it was removed at birth (before she was abandoned in the woods).

4. Muns was also a huldrekall, he was the last hulder that was born in and inhabited those particular woods. The cabdriver and his family seemed to have moved there from elsewhere (or left the woods to live among people before they were destroyed). And Esme's origins are unknown, she was found in the woods but who knows who left her there.

5. I am not entirely sure but my best guess is that the water creature was a Nokken, which is a type of water spirit from Norse Folklore. I thought it wasw odd that the water was toxic even though there were other Nokken around too. I guess maybe the water source they were in was not the main one used by the town?

6. I think that they were basically meant to be the Swedish men in black. But someone else may know more about it.

I'm pretty sure the brothers, Esmeralda and Muns are from three different fairy species.

Esmeralda is a Skogsrå, the water creatures are some sort of water fairy. The pale man who got his head chopped off and turned into mush was Näcken, and his death was the cause of the water pollution going out of control. The little tadpole-like creature captured by Ylva is a baby Näcken. The cab driver is essentially a troll.
