Pryce and Olivia's cancer

(Spoilers for season 2, I guess)

When the Russian doctor/possible war criminal reveals to Olivia that Dr Pryce has been feeding her the scraps of his failed experiments, I got the impression that consuming and feeding off of those wastes was the cause of Olivia's 'upir cancer'...which led me to believe that Dr Pryce purposefully caused Olivia to get sick since he was fed up with cleaning up her messes and essentially being her whipping boy. (He seemed to take Chausser's death pretty hard...and he seemed rather callous when referring Olivia to an oncologist-- well more so than usual.) So, am I completely off in thinking Pryce deliberately caused Olivia's cancer and then tried to capitalize off of it? Or did he not cause it, but just use it as an opportunity?
