I literally made an account here to express my frustration
I love Hemlock Grove. Like... LOVE IT. I recognize its inherent weaknesses but also recognize all the awesome in it as well.
Season 1 was amazing. Sure, it had its issues but overall it was fun, had a great story, great visuals, and great characters.
Season 2 started to go downhill, but I held out hope that they would fix everything for the third.
Season 3.... I want to stab my eyes out. Seriously, seriously bad. I binge-watched the entire thing because I kept wanting it to get better. Kept waiting episode by episode, hoping that the NEXT one would be great. Surely, they'll explain the ever-increasing inconsistencies quickly building up.
Nope.
When it ended, I came to the conclusion that season 3 was basically like watching plot holes falling through larger plot holes and collecting into a giant black hole of perpetual plot holes.
The out-of-character stuff that popped up everywhere made me wonder if the writers just picked stuff out of a hat to have the characters perform.
The dialogue was a sad shadow of what season 1 had been, especially episode 1.
Nothing made sense.
They abandoned pivotal storylines and plot-points without explanation.
And then, there was the ending.
I'm all for sad endings, and I am fine with killing off every character if need be. But the Roman/Peter fight should have been emotionally pivotal considering the fact those characters already have a complicated relationship. There was just no emotion there. I don't blame the actors, as they were clearly working with what they were given, but the writing was just not there. And it should have been, in that scene more than any. I was depressed after watching it, but not for the reasons that the writers probably wanted me to be. They took something so important to the show (the boy's relationship - complicated though it was) and squashed it as though stepping on a bug without thought. And this was my biggest problem with the season.
I feel like if I were to sit down and write every single problem that came with this season, I'd be here for hours, so I won't. The few things I actually did like about the season:
-For the most part, the acting was great (again, they were working with a crap script)
- Dr Pryce's arc was interesting. I love his character and I was happy to see more in-depth stuff with him
- Olivia slowly deteriorating was pretty cool for the most part, although there were still several iffy things about it
Everything else about this season just made me angry. It already looks like a huge percentage of fans are choosing to pretend season 3 doesn't exist, me included. Wish it could have been different.
