So let me say right off the back, excellent questions that had me scratching my head too. And I tried to be patient like they'd explain down the road if I don't over think it but I don't think it happened.
"I thought period old smell upirs. ..he knew romantic was one before romantic knee did he not in season 1...how come he couldn't smell Annie"
Or more so, all of the older umpir's we met this season could detect their own kind and for some odd reason they didn't seem to the same way. So they consistently showed Olivia would do a scan every time she looked at someone and would identify another umpir. (Is it upir or umpir? Idk). When she met her ex's wife, the wife mentioned she had already figured out what Olivia was. Olivia seemed surprised but I didn't get why, she does the exact same thing. Its like they aren't organized except for a small few that still from a tribe and because we follow the Godefrey's, we're also seeing what its like to not raise their young or communicate what they are as they go out in the world and literally try to figure out how to feed themselves. So there are these gaps that probably would've been explained better if we were following anyone else and they're used to make the story. But I personally would have preferred they got that put on the table and we followed a story on what they do with it.
"Can roman not make powerful suggestions anymore? ( was that an up its thing or was romantic just special?) "
Its like they ignored this after making it his thing season 1 before he fully transformed. It also gave the impression that they could all do it since Roman was convinced Olivia was so powerful with it she convinced Leitha she was with an angel and erased his mind all together.
"That other upir at nates house said romantic was about 35%...how's H3 know that? "
Yep?yep?I thought that was a golden opportunity as to the how as well. He finally meets an experienced group of his own and all he gets out of it is the stereotypical anthropologist that just so happens to study that one very unique part of ancient history that no one else is bothering with to explain what mythical being you're up against?right before said expert dies.
"Why would Olivia (or any upir) get a flu jab? "
So for this instance, it was because Norman dragged her there. He didn't know what she was so he probably thought he was taking care of her. And because she got it at the family doctor, who turned out to be a flying lizard thing that started the umpir zombie cancer, he infected Olivia through the flu shot. But to piggy back on that question, I never understood why she didn't turn ravenous like the people at the party roman went to. One guy seemed like he flipped out the same night yet Olivia was still walking around in the daylight and holding down her hunger to the bitter end.
"Did Olivia make roman and liltha do it cuz they were more likely to have upir baby? As Norman gave Olivia one and theyre bro/sis does it increase the chances? "
It seems like one umpir parent is all you need to make an umpir. So, leitha didn't have any umpir parents, her father was Norman (human) and his wife (human) whose name I forget. Her and Roman only shared a human father. His new half sister was umpir because she shared an umpir mother. So he had a child with a human half sister. It was the lizard creature that made them mate, not Olivia. He seemed to claim that he had been manipulating the Godefrey gene pool for a long time and it was something about that family that was ideal to breed his species. So what made Leitha important to mate with was her Godefrey bloodline not any umpir. He also for lucky with an umpir in the Godefrey family to make that special child.
