When Miranda got away and borrowed their phone, Spivak found them with her. Guess he decided they might have been a threat and must have killed them somehow. They were later found in the snow, frozen to death (assumed) by police.
Guess they were following up looking for next of kin or something since that was likely the last call from their phone and it rang Roman 3 times. So they called him.
He had just assumed it was a wrong number or something but then when the cop called and told him where the call came from, he figured out it was around the area they were searching for Spivak and it helped him find Nadia.
