Shelley & the older guy situation is VERY creepy.

isn't Shelley supposed to be a teenager or barely 20 or something? i'm only on ep.6 but that creepy (and kind of annoying) guy (who runs(?) the shelter) and his creepy wooing of Shelley (THE sweetest, most sympathetic character on the show) is very unsettling.

I was creeper out by it too. I thought she had just turned 18 last season and now her first relationship is with a 35 year old man. It seems innocent and sweet but if you think about it it's just kinda ewe. Which makes me feel bad bc Shelly deserves love.

Areyah, didn't they say in the show that the guy was in his 40's? it's definitely ewe but i'm just happy that Shelley got a happy albeit ewey(!) ending. :)

He was 39.

I agree, he was very creepy and very odd. I thought he was going to be a weirdo and his story line was going to lead into something sinister because there was something very fake and obtuse about the way he rambled with his stories.

But Hemlock always seemed weird with the older male/younger female dynamics, ie Peter and Christina (especially in the first episodes where he kept mentioning how hot he is in front of this middle schooler), the twins, and all the incest storylines. Just very weird in general. At lease Shelley was of age.

I agree. I completely thought he was going to end up doing sometthing sinister to shelley due to his overly creepiness and he truley did seem so fake with his words and actions.

Yes I found it rather creepy too. I don't know how much time is suppose to have passed between the first episode in season one and the final episode. But Shelly was younger than Roman and in season one since they (Peter, Roman and Shelly) were all shown to be in High School. I'm guessing Roman and Peter were meant to at least be in their Junior year. Neither went back so I don't know if that was because they graduated or they both dropped out.

In season 3 Olivia and Roman were fighting in court over who Shelly would live with and the court said she had to live with her Mother. I would think that would mean she was underage (18). The shows wiki page lists her birth year as 1999. By that in 2015 she'd have been 16 but I don't know if the year in the show was co-current with the real world year. The first season aired in 2013 but I don't think three years passed in the show.

I was a little creeped out by the relationship but the age of consent in Pennsylvania is 16 . Since she was a freshman in season one it is safe to say she is at least 17 by season 3 so as creepy as it is, it's legal.
