Is this show worth watching?

I like horror but not supernatural horror...and apparently this show is about werewolves.

Season one is worth watching, definitely, it's supernatural, but starts a bit low key in that regard, and kinda has a different take on werewolves and vampires, at least watch a few episodes and see.

Seasons two and three, very different from season one, not anywhere near as good, but if you like season one give them a shot. Worst that happens is you hate it and stop watching.

I tried but couldn't make it all the way through the 3rd season.

1 of the main characters is a serial rapist previously and part of the 1st season, which is very off-putting. Then it's just...not brought up again. But still he's 1 of the 2 main characters (a vampire and a werewolf) throughout the show and you're supposed to care about him.

Other than a lead being a rapist with no repercussions the 1st season had some interesting parts, then the next 2 got progressively worse to unwatchable. It's the 1st netflix original to get canceled, too. Other than that the rest is just my opinion.

Serial rapist?
Who?
What the hell are you talking about?

reply

I'm guessing Roman. But I don't see how he's a rapist.

reply

He did rape that one Asian girl and the charm her into forgetting. But I don't see how he's a serial rapist.

reply

isn't it also implied that Roman raped Letha and tweaked her memory too? I know it's not too clear. I did get the feeling from the scene with the Asian gal that this wasn't Roman's first crime of this sort. Again, this isn't specified, more implied by how he behaves. Bottom line is Roman is portrayed as a very disturbed/borderline evil character

imo - this is a really good show, with some standout exceptional qualities. dark, violent, funny in its own way, and addictive.

Right off the top is the music, which (i'm pretty sure) is 100% original, including an awesome karaoke scene. The music works a lot like it does in Twin Peaks for establishing atmosphere.

Dialog is incredible and at times really smart. the characters read between their own lines, leave the obvious unsaid, and react in logical ways. Not to mention how much fun the dialog is. The characters are really deep and well thought out - shades of grey prevail, with few clear cut characters at polar ends. Even the shows ultimate nemesis evil incarnate character has super witty dialog, that comes off with snappy humor.

i felt the young actors at times were fully exploited, but the mature scenes are still well performed, and i sure didn't mind.

The story is really good season 1, ok in season 2, and a train wreck in season 3 - but season 3 still has some great scenes, even if when you stack them all together it becomes *beep*

so if you watch a lot of TV, absolutely this is worth watching. there just isn't enough good horror genre TV that has this show's occasional smarts.

Season 1 is best.. Season 3 is worst.. Actually don't watch after season 1.

reply

Yeah, seasons one and two. Three made me depressed, like when I heard Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series was being made into a show, then I saw Legend of the Seeker, depressed.

Not sure yet, man. I enjoyed the first season and the second season was pretty good. I am now, however, on season 3 and...in my opinion, it's going down. I'm getting bored, and that really disappoints me.

This kind of horror is really not my thing, and honestly, my entire life I have always seen werewolves as being really tacky. But I was really impressed with this show for a while. I'm hoping the season I'm on will pick up rather soon, because I have other, more interesting things to watch. =[

I must also say that the human to werewolf transformation on episode 2 (I believe?) Of the first season was beautiful and awe inspiring.
