Grittiness and production are good, but the stories don't even pretend to get anywhere near a vague attempt right.
May as well rename the characters completely and call it fantasy.
No offense to the OP but when I see ANYTHING on TV I assume that it is fantasy. This includes CNN and Fox News too. I'm not kidding.
PS. I love this fantasy show.
It's foundation is based on the historicity of various Norsemen kingdoms but in this case they made it a two generational family line of expansion out of the Viking Villages which is a complete fantasy. In many ways it's similar to how the Jewish scribes in Babylon fictionalized the history of the Jews before their captivity in Babylon.
shareThis show isn’t historically correct at all and a little too PC for my liking, as an example Ragnar’s raid on Lindisfarne is about 100 years apart from the invasion of great heathen army which feature his sons in later seasons, in the show his son Bjørn was about 12 during the raid on Lindisfarne, and looked about 30 with great heathen army! 😂
