Serious issues(spoilers)

1)How did the step brother know to cop to the 911 call? It certainly didn't appear the brother knew he would do it as he was terrified he was going to be the one called to the stand.

2)At the end when the detective realized Samuel Jackson was the killer she announced - "send a car to the house!". How did she get there before anyone else and kill Jackson? There were no patrol cars closer that would have gotten there before her?

For the first one I just figured since it was a big trial, the 911 call was more than likely played over and over again on news reports, and his brother heard it and recognized his voice.

The biggest problem I had was that after everything went down he was living happily ever after. It didn't seem he was charged with any crime even though he committed some serious crime, hit and run and prosecuting a man for his crime.

Your response to the first question doesn't sound logical at all. Not sure how you could've come to that conclusion. It was more likely that a scene was either deleted to explain what happened or the writers and/or director just thought nobody would even notice.

At first I thought maybe he was in cahoots with SLJ's character to get him off but even then that would make little sense. In the end, it just did not make sense.

I do agree that this, the other question (about how the cop showed up first) and the neatly-wrapped ending were all major issues.

I agree with the OP this movie had some serious flaws. I was getting pissed at how dumb this movie was I hoped SLJ would kill his family and the movie would end with the Mitch Brockden character being blamed for it. That would have been a better ending to this unbelievable movie.

reply

I thought this was about to happen, too, though I wasn't hoping for it.

No, the OP's points are plot holes, but my biggest problem is how Mitch gets away with everything.
DUI
Hit and run
destroying evidence in a crime
tampering with a crime scene
legal misconduct by throwing the trial, (though it was only decided when Jimmy came forward)
entering a restricted area of the police station
stealing classified evidence
breaking and entering Davis' house
assaulting a police officer
stealing an officer's weapon
reckless driving

Do we really need a happy ending so badly that it's all ignored? It's a good thing the killer died because he never would have been convicted with all those illegal search problems caused by Mitch.

And hey, why didn't Mitch immediately call his wife from the cement factory to warn her that Davis was loose and might go after her? I sure would have.

When you're white, wealthy, law degree, connections, and working in govt, you can get away with much in this country, including murder. Just look at the Kennedy family.

And OJ... Oh wait...

That in nonsense. He's not that wealthy or connected.

Not every successful white person in America is in the same class as the kennedys.

Things have gotten more secure port 9-11, but before then, if you were a cleat cut, white man in a business suit, with a clipboard in hand, you could basically walk into the majority of US companies with no questions asked.

When they did the court room reveal of the 911 caller, and said his name was Jimmy, I didn't even piece it together. Even though I thought to myself how he looks like Mitch's step-brother. I figured Clinton paid some poor down and out ex-con from a support group to confess to making the call. It wasn't until the bar scene that I even realized that it was step-brother Jimmy; only because it made absolutely no sense plot wise why Mitch would be so terrified his name was going to be called. I've never been a fan of illogical and irrational suspense and plot twists if the viewer possesses any higher brain activity at all. It's lazy writing, bad directing, or horrible editing, and it's attempted manipulation that's just insulting to the viewer.

I still need to know who's from the Riverdale Bronx or in this case the Southside of Chicago and speaks with a British accent? Lol
