What about Pedro Gonzales?

Other people have asked why the Jimmy perjured himself in court to help defend SJ and someone on one thread said all is explained in a deleted scene on the DVD. I saw it on Netflix so did not see such.

But, anyway, I was amazed when about a third of the way into the movie, Mitch picks up the newspaper about Pedro Gonzales and immediately gets interested in that death, then goes to his computer and feels he is hooking up threads. I couldn't quite make out how he made the connection. Anybody got any ideas, or know if there's something that was cut out?

Its been a while since I have seen the movie but I am pretty sure Mitch knew that Pedro was a recently released felon who had been taking part in the meetibfs meetings that Samuel's character had been attending.
